The 19th Biennial Pennsylvania Postal Workers State Convention has come and gone and the event can only be described as an overwhelming success. The convention, hosted by the Eastern Montgomery Country Area Local, saw it ups and downs during the planning stages as well as several unexpected issues. In the end, this convention saw the largest delegate count and local participation of any PPWU convention.
Local President AJ Jones and the EMCAL members must be congratulated for putting together an excellent convention. The hard work and effort the EMCAL members put forth did not go unnoticed by the delegates in attendance.

The Convention convened on Friday afternoon. The delegates heard reports from National and PPWU officers. On Saturday, the delegates debate several proposed Constitutional and Contractual Resolutions submitted by various locals throughout the state. Each resolution was discussed and voted upon. Those resolutions that were adopted will be sent to the National Convention for consideration by the delegates to the National Convention. To see the resolutions voted upon, click here
Saturday afternoon saw the nominations for PPWU officer positions. There was only one nominee for each office, so the nominees were elected by acclamation. They will serve a two-year term with the next election in 2010. Saturday night the delegates enjoyed a banquet, sponsored by the Eastern Montgomery County Area Local. In attendance was Congressman Patrick Murphy who thanked the PPWU for their support, which he believes ultimately led to his successful election to office. Representative Murphy vowed to never forget the work that the PPWU members did for him and pledges to support us in whatever legislation comes his way.
Sunday belonged to the guests. The delegates heard reports from National Business Agents, PPWU Officers and other invited guests. Nominations were held for the hosting of the 2010 PPWU Convention, to be held in the central region. The 2010 PPWU State Convention will be hosted by the Keystone Area Local in Harrisburg.
A Motion was made, and seconded, calling for the PPWU to go on record as condemning the actions of Senator John McCain for crossing union picket lines to promote his presidential bid. The motion was unanimously approved. The Convention adjourned.
